Set Your Path Towards A Successful 2020 Season

“The only limit to the height of your achievements is the reach of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.” –Michelle Obama

“Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible.” – Tony Robbins

With the athletes we work with at PR Endurance Training, we know first hand that goal setting plays a very important part in everyone's success, so it is an element we ask about right from the start of the coaching relationship, and re-visit throughout the season and year to year.

General goals like, "I just want to finish" or "I want to swim faster" are fine, but having specific goals will help you focus on your target for even greater and rewarding success.

To help with those, you should consider using SMART goals, a method often found in the business and education world.

SMART stands for:

Specific – What are the specific areas for improvement?

Measurable – How will you determine progress or success?

Attainable – Not too easy, but challenging enough to attain or possibly just out of reach.

Relevant/Realistic – Why do you want to tackle these goals? Do they make sense for your life?

Time-related – When do you want to achieve these goals by?

Simon Whitfield, member of the Canada's Sports Hall of Fame, and the 2000 Sydney Olympic Triathlon Champion, talks about writing "I am the Olympic champion" in a journal every day. We know that turned out, but that overriding goal was supported by specific ones.

So as the new year begins, take some time to think and write down your goals for the 2020 season, then register for some races to so you can have fun conquering those goals. I'm sure you will have a rewarding season by doing so.

If you are looking for coaching to help you successfully tackle your goals, please contact us and we will be happy to talk to you about options best suited for you.
